The Region 9 Multicenter Acute Care Surgery (MACS) Research Consortium is the collaborative research network of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS-COT) Region 9, uniting trauma centers across Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada, Northern California, San Diego/Imperial Valley, and Southern California to conduct high-quality multicenter research in trauma and acute care surgery.
Our History
The Southern California Chapter’s Committee on Trauma established the Southern California Trauma Consortium (SCTC) in 2019 under the direction of Drs. Areti Tillou, Eric Ley, and Jeffry Nahmias, building a strong record of multicenter collaboration. In 2026, that model became the foundation of the Region 9 MACS Research Consortium, developed under the leadership of Dr. Matthew Martin, Chair of the Southern California ACS-COT and extending the same spirit of collaboration across the full Region 9 footprint.

The Consortium is governed by a formal charter.
Participation
All Region 9 trauma centers and acute care surgery programs are invited to participate. Consortium meetings are held every other month and are open to all interested surgeons, investigators, and staff.
